Book Cover Trends for 2019
If you are ready to publish your book, and you are looking for a cover that capture’s your reader’s interest and imagination, this is the right article for you and you need to read the following book cover trends for 2019.
1. Handdrawn letters and fonts
This trend started a few years ago and I personally think it will continue to develop over the next year. There are tons of different hand-drawn fonts all over the internet and they really go hand in hand with the modern illustrations and handdrawn elements. These fit perfectly with romance and Young Adult genres.
2. Pink is the book cover colour of 2019
Pink is going to be very popular and very big in 2019. We are obviously not talking about Barbie Pink, but rather a more toned down, dusty pink. This colour attracts a larger audience and is easy to combine with other colours. Due to the fact that this colour is toned down, you can really make your lettering pop. Not a big fan of dusty pink? Try rose gold!
3. Say no to overly photoshoped characters.
Remember those Scottish Highlander hunks that are stripped to the waist and holding their frail little countess in their arms? Yeah well – they are out. A lot of readers prefer less photoshopped characters, people they can relate with. Not sure you will be able to pull it off? Try to commission a handdrawn cover! Especially for romance and women’s fiction these covers seem to be doing very well!
4. The return of the collage
Remember those horrible collages you used to make in fourth grade? You might see them pop up all around you in the book shop! Collages are going to be very popular again in 2019.
Less is more in 2019
Less is more even in the 2019 book covers. Designers now use simple designs or even go for very minimalistic book covers.
Retro fonts and designs will return
In 2019 we will see a revival of those massive 70’s and 80’s designs. Nostalgia has been popular for quite some time now. This love for retro will find its way into book cover designs where we will see a return of 70’s and 80’s fonts.
7. Muted colours
Not only dusty rose will make a comeback, you will see a lot of bloggers promoting books and covers boasting muted colours. Life is already very hectic – when reading and relaxing people are looking for a place of calm and quiet. These people will be attracted to muted colours as they radiate calmness and sophistication.
8. Matte covers
Are you looking to publish paperbacks and hardcovers? Ask for a matte finish on your cover. Matte finish is incredibly popular at the moment. Another great reason to choose for a matte finish is that it looks a lot better on pictures and photohraphs. Bloggers are a massive part of promoting your book and thus you need to make sure your book looks good on camera.
9. Busy book covers.
You don’t want a minimalistic cover? You can also go overboard and make it super busy. Put elements all over the place and let it dominate your cover. Use complementary colours to make your typography and letters pop.
10. Use professional book cover designers.
As publishing your own book is becoming more and more popular, the book market gets saturated and it becomes harder to attract new readers. Great covers attract more readers. That is why, in 2019, authors need to start investing in professionally designed book covers. Stay away from designing your own book cover and order a book cover online. You can choose to have a custom book cover made, or you can order a premade book cover with one of the many professional book cover desigeners.
